Today's Columbus Crew crest follows yesterday's, somewhat. The elements, again, are two capital C's and a 96. The major difference here is what inspired this crest.

This is inspired by the Great Serpent Mound of southern Ohio. I kicked around an idea for doing a design that more exactly depicted the mound, but it never seemed to click. I didn't want to give it up, however. Serpent Mound is one of my favorite places in Ohio. It's simultaneously humble and awesome. It's subtle and stupefying, all at once, and as such I think it symbolizes the people in and around Columbus and Ohio pretty well.

Even though the Serpent Mound shape didn't work very well as a crest, I kept playing with basic geometric shapes until I hit upon something that worked for me. Maybe we'll revisit Serpent Mound later in this project.
